K9 Electronics is a British designer and manufacturer of RF surveillance, counter-surveillance and electronic-warfare systems. Our covert audio range applies the same in-house engineering discipline that underpins our defence product lines.
K9 Electronics Ltd was founded in 2015 and operates from Northampton Science Park in the United Kingdom. The company designs and manufactures bespoke radio-frequency electronic systems for military, law enforcement and government customers — including counter-UAS systems, RF defeat systems and electronic-warfare hardware. Over that time the business has built a reputation as a genuine engineering manufacturer rather than a reseller: the systems we supply are designed, prototyped and assembled by our own team.
Our Covert Audio Systems Division extends that capability into professional audio surveillance. Because we are an RF engineering house first, our audio products are built around the disciplines that matter most in this field: encryption, spread-spectrum design, low-detectability and disciplined manufacture — not repackaged commodity modules. The covert audio market is full of inexpensive imported devices that transmit in clear on a fixed channel. Equipment of that kind is located and decoded in seconds by any competent counter-surveillance sweep. Our position is that a surveillance device which cannot survive a sweep is not a professional tool, and we engineer accordingly.
Every product is designed, assembled and supported in-house. That gives us full control over the encryption architecture, the frequency plan and the supply chain — and it means there is no third-country dependency or sanctions exposure in our hardware. For agency and government buyers, provenance matters: knowing where a device was designed, who holds the encryption keys and how it is supported through its service life is part of the procurement decision, not an afterthought.
As a British manufacturer, K9 Electronics supplies customers in the United Kingdom and, under appropriate export licensing, internationally. The company works with established professional surveillance equipment distributors as well as supplying agencies directly, and undertakes bespoke and OEM development for partners who need equipment tailored to a specific operational requirement.
The difference between a professional audio surveillance system and a commodity wireless microphone is almost entirely a question of operational security. Three engineering principles define the K9 approach.
Encryption. A K9 audio link carries digitally encoded, AES-encrypted voice. If a transmission is detected, the audio content still cannot be recovered without the pairing key. Many devices on the market either have no encryption at all or use weak, proprietary schemes that provide little real protection. Genuine, verified encryption is the baseline for any device intended for sensitive use.
Spread-spectrum design. A fixed-frequency transmitter presents a constant carrier that an adversary can lock onto. K9 systems use frequency-hopping spread spectrum, so the link presents as brief, transient energy distributed across a band rather than a steady signal sitting at one point on a spectrum analyser. This is the single most important factor in whether a device survives a counter-surveillance sweep.
Low-detectability operation. Beyond the radio link itself, the way a device behaves over time determines how exposed it is. Voice-activated transmission means the device is silent when there is nothing to hear. Store-and-forward operation records locally and transmits later in a compressed burst, reducing the on-air footprint to seconds per day. And for environments where any radio emission is a risk, non-radiating approaches — such as carrier-current devices that move audio over mains wiring — remove the air-spectrum signature altogether.
These principles inform every product in the K9 covert audio range. For a description of the individual systems, see the products page, or contact us for detailed specifications.
Covert audio equipment is a regulated product class. K9 Electronics operates a clear policy on who we supply and how.
